During our recent visit to the Old Mill area in Pigeon Forge, we discovered the cutest little shop called Long Story Short, and it quickly became one of our favorite hidden gems in town.
This charming boutique has such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere the moment you walk through the door. From beautifully curated gifts and home décor to candles, books, accessories, and unique Smoky Mountain finds, every corner of the shop feels thoughtfully designed. It’s the kind of place where you wander in “just to look” and leave with a bag full of treasures you suddenly can’t live without. 🛍️🌿
One of the things we loved most was how peaceful and relaxing the whole Old Mill area feels. Between the riverside views, historic charm, and locally owned shops like Long Story Short, it’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a quiet afternoon with family.
Be sure to add Long Story Short to your must-visit list during your next stay at Bear Waves Smoky Mountain Pool Cabin! After a fun day exploring the Old Mill shops, enjoying delicious food, and soaking in the charm of downtown Pigeon Forge, you can head back to the cabin to relax in the private indoor heated pool or unwind in the hot tub. 🏔️💦
Sometimes the best vacation memories come from the small places you almost didn’t stop at… and Long Story Short was definitely one of those places for us.
We recently had the chance to enjoy a meal at Five Oaks Farm Kitchen, and it was such a great experience! Our group sampled a little bit of everything, including the fried catfish, chicken and dumplings, smokehouse chicken, fried chicken, and banana pudding. Everything was tasty, and the service was quick, which is always a win when you’re ready to dig in after a busy day exploring the Smokies.
The restaurant itself is beautiful and has that warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes a meal feel like part of the vacation. And perhaps our favorite part? Five Oaks Farm Kitchen is just minutes from Bear Waves Smoky Mountain Pool Cabin. 🐻🌲
If you’re staying at Bear Waves and looking for a delicious, convenient spot for a family meal, we’d definitely recommend adding Five Oaks Farm Kitchen to your Smoky Mountain dining list. Come hungry, because that banana pudding is worth saving room for!
Planning a trip to the Smoky Mountains? A little parking preparation can make your adventure smoother, especially during busy seasons when popular trailheads and scenic overlooks fill up quickly. Whether you’re visiting for hiking, waterfalls, wildlife viewing, or breathtaking mountain views, knowing where and when to park can help you spend less time searching for a spot and more time enjoying the beauty of the Smokies.
Arrive Early for the Best Parking Spots
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the country, and popular areas like Cades Cove, Clingmans Dome, Laurel Falls, and Newfound Gap can get crowded. During peak seasons like summer, fall foliage, spring break, and holiday weekends, parking lots often fill early.
One of the best Smoky Mountain travel tips is to start your day early. Morning visitors often enjoy cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, better wildlife viewing opportunities, and easier parking.
Know Where You’re Going Before You Leave
The Smokies cover hundreds of thousands of acres, and driving times between attractions can surprise first-time visitors. Before heading out from your Smoky Mountain cabin rental, check your route and decide which areas you want to explore.
Some guest favorites include:
• Cades Cove scenic loop for wildlife and historic buildings • Newfound Gap for incredible mountain views • Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail for a scenic drive • Laurel Falls Trail for a family-friendly hike • Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area attractions nearby
Planning ahead helps you avoid unnecessary backtracking and makes the most of your vacation time.
Parking Tags Are Required in the National Park
Visitors should know that Great Smoky Mountains National Park requires parking tags for vehicles parked for more than 15 minutes. These help support visitor services and park operations. Be sure to purchase your parking tag before your adventure so you can relax and enjoy the day.
